Tom Douglas Summer Camp 2010 Announced

To know me is to hear me yammer incessantly about how Tom Douglas’ Culinary Summer Camp was the best week of my life. Or weeks, I should say, being a repeat offender. And yes, I’ve signed up for a third round this summer. Once again, summer camp is shaping up to be a week-long belly flop into all things foodie. While making great new friends, you’ll be pampered, challenged, fed, taught, wined, relaxed, stretched, partied, rewarded, and finally mystified at how much was packed into five days, all for a fraction of the price of any travel-somewhere foodie vacation. What more do you need to know?

Darryl—You’ve convinced me—I’ll be back for my second round this summer. I hope some time to connect for a Foodies lunch. Sara.

  2. Darryl about 1 month later:

Sara, That’s terrific. See you at camp, or hopefully sooner!

I just heard about this culinary cooking class and I have been emailing Robyn Wolfe about the details. Is it a good combo of demos and actual cooking? Since you’ve done this 2 times before I figured you’d know. Obviously you had fun or you wouldn’t sign up for a 3rd time. Robyn says there are 2 spots left and I’m seriously thinking of signing up. Are the challenges hard? I have been cooking for my family for 20+ years, but that in no way makes me qualified for serious professional cooking challenges. Robyn said there are people of all skill level, I hope she’s right. Anyway, any insight would be much appreciated so when I fork over my $2500 I know what I’m in for! Thank you!

Cathy, absolutely—it’s a great combination of demos, cooking, and, well, kind of a week-long foodie party. None of the campers are professional cooks, and we’ve had people with very little cooking experience come and have a great time. The challenges are fun (and challenging) and always aimed at learning something. They’re not some hurdle you have to get past (put the cooking show destructive competition nonsense out of your head) and most are optional. There’s usually an in-kitchen cooking thing where teams “compete” against each other, but it’s fun and crazy to mess around in Tom’s restaurant kitchens, under the guidance of his chefs. So don’t be afraid! It’s an amazing week you won’t regret!
